Win Henstock - Artist Biography

Originally from Great Britain, Win first moved to Oakville with her family in 1976. In 1994, Win moved to California and opened a prestigious gallery in Laguna Beach, having a strong appreciation of Landscape and Impressionist painting. In California, she studied painting with some of the area’s most notable artists – Ken Auster, John Cosby, Roger Armstrong, Kevin McPherson and Timothy Clark.  Upon a visit to England, she met the good fortune of meeting and taking the guidance of Master Watercolourist John Yardley, whose work would deeply influence her ability to capture light and the moment.
Win would return to Oakville and continued to share her love of art and opened Win Henstock Gallery in 2006. 
As an artist, Win is noted for her "Plein Aire" style: the art of painting from nature or painting in-situ, outside of the artist studio and within the environment. Because of various weather conditions, Plein Aire artists focus and capture the light, colour and shadow as it appears in nature.

Win HenstockWin’s style loose brushwork and keen eye demonstrate the beauty of nature. She frequently visits area’s of Ontario’s most beautiful forests, rivers and lakes (Muskoka is a particular favourite.) She also paints the beauty of Oakville, where she lives, including the main street shops, Gairloch Gardens, the boat harbours of Oakville and Bronte and the trees along Sixteen Mile Creek.
Win’s paintings are joyous and vibrant, expressing the fondness she has for art and the beauty of her environment and her community. Her work may be found in collections throughout Canada, United States and England.
Win Henstock is a member of Oil Painters of America, The California Art Club, Southern California Plein Air Society, National Watercolor Society, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. She is an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists and has exhibited in numerous juried shows internationally and in Canada.  She regularly teaches painting workshops.
